What is School Fuel? It is made of a group of concerned citizens of San Marcos, Texas who felt the need to focus on feeding the children of San Marcos CISD on weekends, when there are no food services provided. It evolved from a Bible study on poverty. The group wanted to focus on a local mission, asking what would be the best way to address San Marcos' poverty needs. The program was started in March, 2013, with a pilot group of 31 students. The children served were the neediest of the needy at Mendez Elementary. We currently feed around 900 students total at Mendez, De Zavala, Travis, Crockett, Hernandez, Rodriguez and Bowie Elementary schools, and Miller and Goodnight Middle Schools. Your help is needed in "packing the sacks" on.
The packing place is 211 Lee Street, parking and entrance are on the back of the building off McKie Street. We will be moving buildings at some point this year, please watch your email and our Facebook page when this will happen. Our new "packing place" will be 1331 State Highway 123, next to Goodnight Middle School. We will be on the left side of the building, by the 1st garage door. A reminder email will be sent 4 days in advance of your sign up time. We appreciate and want your help. If you have questions, please email [email protected] or call or text Shelby at 512-826-1302. If you can't make it for your scheduled evening or morning shift, please text Shelby at the number above.
Please only sign up for yourself and your family. Getting the emails of all volunteers allows us to send reminder emails to ensure we will have enough volunteers each week.
