Sierra Club Falls of the James Group
The 9th Sierra Club Falls of the James Group (FoJG) workday in Bellemeade is scheduled. The Groundwork RVA Board Chair, Bob Argabright, is targeting the removal of invasive plants, other gardening activities, riparian/streamside restoration, and general cleanup near the Bellemeade Community Center (adjacent to Oak Grove/Bellemeade E.S.). FoJG members will work alongside Groundwork RVA high school students, VCU ASPiRE students, community volunteers, Richmond Tree Stewards, et al.
Be advised that there is poison ivy in the woods where invasive plants will be removed. Long sleeves are recommended and proper handling of the clothes you wear is important so the oil doesn't touch someone's skin. While we're not trying to get rid of poison ivy (the berries are nutritious for some birds), it's growing among the Japanese honeysuckle & English ivy.
Ticks are out -- use repellant and check yourself thoroughly when you get home.
- Refillable water bottle (full)
- Work gloves
- Clothing appropriate for this activity (layers are recommended so you can add/remove layers to maintain comfort)
Plan on having a great morning with a wonderful group of volunteers. Pizza and fellowship at noon.
9:30am - 12:00pm EDT
