Forsyth Beekeepers Club
Hosted by Bill Dunn, Andy Bailey, Nicholas Weaver, and Butch Shelton.
We will look at disorders of the hive, and learn how to correct them. We will also discuss diseases, and how to prevent and combat them. Like so many other classes offered through the club, this is a unique opportunity.
$10 cash or check (made to Forsyth Beekeepers Club, or FBC) for members
Non-members are welcome to join at the class. Dues are $10. Please complete the membership form online here.
Also bring a sack lunch / snacks, water, and a chair. There are no restroom facilities, please plan accordingly.
Optional - Bring your bees and see what diseases or disorders you may have, and get advice on how to manage it.
To check for nosema: collect forage bees by covering the hive for 5-10 minutes, then collect bees returning to the hive. You can "preserve" them in alcohol in the fridge until the session.
To check for Varroa: collect 1/2 cup of bees from the hive (NOT THE QUEEN!) and keep them in a jar.
To check for hygienic behavior: get a capped frame of brood and bring it to the session in a nuc colony.
