Virginia Conservation Association
Please join us for this highly anticipated Spring field trip to Virginia's Horse Country!
The day will commence promptly at 10:30am at the National Sporting Museum & Library in Middleburg. Founded in 1954, the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) is located in Middleburg, the heart of Virginia’s beautiful hunt country. The inviting, 6-acre campus, world-class research Library, and fine art Museum highlight the rich heritage and tradition of country pursuits.
The morning will include a customized tour featuring the recently conserved Sporting Screen and its accompanying exhibition 'Deconstructed'.
Andrew Baxter, Sculpture Conservator and long-time VCA supporter will head up our field trip and describe his treatments of Paul Mellon’s equestrian bronzes at the museum. http://nationalsporting.org/
For lunch we have been invited to the home of Chris Ohrstrom, expert in historic paint and wallcoverings, and co-founder of Adelphi Paper Hangings. Chris lives nearby in The Plains and has generously offered to provide lunch for the VCA and conduct informal tours of his historic property. https://www.adelphipaperhangings.com/
In the afternoon we will have the rare opportunity of visiting Oak Spring Garden Foundation in Upperville, the home and estate of Rachel ‘Bunny’ and Paul Mellon. This offers the chance to see the newly replicated Schlumberger copper finial from Bunny’s Potting Shed which was a collaboration between artisan Drew Reynolds and Andrew (Baxter).
We will also have a guided tour of Bunny’s library which contains her collection of books, manuscripts and art on plants, gardens, and landscapes. https://www.osgf.org/
Space will be limited to 30 attendees so sign-up asap to avoid disappointment.
Priority will be given to current VCA members:
Please include names of all guests with your rsvp!
Carpooling is highly encouraged.
Addresses for lunch and afternoon session will be sent nearer the time.
