Fairlawn Avenue United Church
Join the Rev. Douglas duCharm and Amanda Hancox for a five-week discussion of Sue Monk Kidd's novel, The Book of Longings.
The discussion series will run online, via Zoom, Wednesdays through Lent – from February 24 to March 24 – from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Space is limited. (Zoom details will be provided to participants via email the day before each session.)
Kidd’s 2020 novel reframes the story of Jesus through the story of a young woman named Ana. She is rebellious, a seeker with a curious mind and a daring spirit. Defying the expectations placed on women, she engages in furtive scholarly pursuits and writing. When she meets the eighteen-year-old Jesus, each is drawn to, and enriched by, the other's spiritual and philosophical ideas. The story is grounded in research, and written with a respectful approach to Jesus’s life that focuses on his humanity. The result is quite simply a re-telling of the gospels through the eyes of a remarkable and perceptive woman.
