2021 Candy Cane 5K Volunteers
Thank you for considering signing up and volunteering for this year’s 2021 Candy Cane 5K. If you are interested in signing up to volunteer with us, please feel free to do so today! As a volunteer, your help is invaluable; without you, we could not do it all!
The event will be held at the Univest Performance Center next to Quakertown's Public Library on Mill Street's library in Quakertown. Please note, too, that we will also need people to volunteer before the event. That way, if you are unable to attend the Walk/Run, you can still help!
I, Jessica Martin, have set up a general email for all volunteer communication to take place; in the event of any questions, please email me at the following email address: [email protected]
Please note you must be signed up through signup genius to be considered a volunteer. We have ordered 50 volunteer shirts in various sizes from S-XL; when you come to the event, you will check-in at the Volunteer Tent, you will receive your shirt, Chic-Fil-A Sandwich voucher, and drawstring bag as a thank you for volunteering. What to expect at the Volunteer check-in tent: You will be required to wear a face-covering while volunteering whenever 6' social distancing is not feasible. There will be some exceptions to specific roles requiring gloves/face coverings throughout your volunteer position. When you check-in, you will sign in and have your temperature taken and recorded. Please make every effort to check into the volunteer tent immediately upon arrival.
This year we will have 2 waves; Wave 1 Packet Pick-up opens at 8:30 am, with the race starting at 9:15. Am. Wave 2 Packet Pick-up opens at 9:30 am, with the race starting at 10:15 am. You're more than welcome to run in one wave and volunteer as long as your Wave time doesn't conflict with your volunteer slot. Please use the comment box if you are running and the Wave you are running in. ***COVID-19***
Information regarding COVID-19 and safety protocols. This year as you know, we have been faced with challenge after challenge to pull off a live 5K event. We have had several safety meetings regarding all the participants, staff, and of course, Volunteers. We will be implementing the following safety protocols and procedures for the event:
-Volunteers & Staff will be required to wear a Neck Gaiter, Mask, or face shield, whenever 6’ distance is not permittable. There will be specific positions that will require face-covering regardless of space; I will mention those positions below, so all are aware upfront.
Volunteer/Staff Sign in requirements:
We will have a Volunteer/First Aid Tent; it will be required of anyone volunteering to have their temperature taken and recorded. You will also fill out your name on the sign-in sheet to track everyone in attendance in the event we would need to reach out to anyone post-event. Once you have had your temperature taken, we will provide you with a volunteer shirt.
Face coverings will be mandatory for the following jobs:
-Post Race Snack Table- you will be required to wear gloves (provided) and a face covering while distributing the snacks. We will have you and your second volunteer 6’ apart to allow appropriate social distancing, but you will be required to hand each person a bag to avoid multiple people touching other bags. Please do not let walkers/runners help themselves to the snacks or water.
-Packet pick-up tent- You will be required to have a face covering on at all times while in this position; once packet pick-up is closed, you may remove your face covering until the next wave of registration opens. We will also require any person coming to pick up their packets to have a face covering on while in line and at the front of the line being helped. We will also have tape markings to have people stand in line 6’ apart from each other. This year each volunteer in this position will be 6’ apart from each volunteer under their tent; we will also have a taped line that will allow extra distance between the table and the participant you are checking in; please feel free to remind anyone crossing the line to remain behind the line. We will also have hand sanitizer as well as a disinfectant at each station.
- Start Line Assistance - You will be required to wear a face-covering while helping the runners/walkers line up at the starting line; we will have tape marking of 6’ spaces as a guide for our participants.
- Water station- You will be required to wear gloves and a face covering.
-Bathroom Attendants- you will be required to wear a face covering. You will be asked to monitor the bathroom lines to make sure that only the allotted number of people are in the bathroom at one given time; you will be able to control how many can come in at a time. We will provide sanitizing supplies that we will put in the bathrooms; we will leave it up to each participant to sanitize their space if they so choose before using the facilities. We will NOT require you to wipe down and sanitize the bathrooms, monitor the crowds.
-Thursday & Friday Packet pickup- You will be required to wear a face-covering during packet pickup; upon arrival at the location, you will have your temperature taken and fill out your name on the sign-in sheet. This year’s packet pickup will be drive-thru style; we will require all participants to remain in their vehicles to minimize contact additional information regarding the flow of Packet pickup will be going out to all who are signed up for the spot.
If you have any questions regarding how things will be working and would like more specific information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you know of anyone who would also be interested in volunteering for this, please forward it.
