Our summer community service program offers 6 different service opportunities over 2 blitz weeks.
Monday, June 14: 9:00 AM – 1: PM (4 hours) & Monday, July 12: 9:00 AM – 1: PM (4 hours) - Supports to Encourage Low-Income Families (SELF)
Supports to Encourage Low-Income Families (SELF) helps hard-working individuals find a path to live their dreams and better support their families in the future. They offer self-sufficiency programs that help people learn new skills, find a job, budget and save more money or even start a small business. They also help with utility assistance, home repairs and mobility modifications, and weatherization for low-income people in Butler County, Ohio. Learn more about SELF here.
Tuesday, June 15: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM (4 hours) - Gorman Heritage Farm
Gorman Heritage Farm is a 122-acre nonprofit, working farm with a mission to educate about agriculture, nutrition, sustainability, and the environment. The vision of Gorman Heritage Farm is to cultivate an informed, involved community dedicated to Building Healthy Futures. At Gorman Farm, there are a variety of projects available for students to take on including gardening, trail repair, animal care and so much more. Wednesday, June 16: 8 AM – 12 PM (4 hours) & Wednesday, July 14 8 AM – 12 PM (4 hours) - Hamilton Urban Garden System
HUGS is a nonprofit organization located in Hamilton, Ohio USA. They are dedicated to urban agriculture, community gardening, health and nutritional education, non-traditional gardening methods, and improving access to affordable food. They have installed dozens of organic urban gardens; manage and garden in the Commerce Park Community Garden and the South Front Street Community Garden and lead health and nutrition learning sessions throughout Butler County. Tuesday, July 13: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM (4 hours) - PAWS Adoption Center
The Progressive Animal Welfare Society, now better known as PAWS Animal Adoption Center, was originally formed by a small group of concerned animal lovers in 1980. Their goal is to establish a dog and cat adoption center that does not utilize euthanasia. In addition to wanting to provide a no-kill alternative, years ago, PAWS’ founders realized the importance of providing spay/neuter and medical treatment for all animals in their care. Here are a few simple steps to sign up:
1.) Registration and Forms
EVERY Student MUST have forms signed and turned in the day of the service. EDGE has a required form all students must fill out to ride in the van and serve. The EDGE form can be found HERE.
Students who have signed up to serve at Gorman Farm MUST have an additional waiver signed and turned in the day of the service. The form can be found here.
2.) DRESS CODE: No revealing shirts, no rips in jeans, no inappropriate wording on shirts, and nothing see-through. Closed-toe shoes are required. Please dress for the weather. Masks are required.
3.) EDGE provides transportation from the teen center to the service sites. Students will need to find transportation to get to EDGE. Once everyone arrives, EDGE will transport students from the teen center to the site of service and back. If a student will be getting a ride to the site or driving themselves, they must email Katie ([email protected]) to let her know.
4.) If you have signed up and can no longer serve, please email [email protected] to remove yourself from the signup.
5.) Please sign up using a personal or parent email. DO NOT USE A SCHOOL EMAIL.
