Since 1967, ACCSC has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a non-profit independent accrediting agency. ACCSC’s scope of recognition includes the accreditation of postsecondary institutions that are predominantly organized to educate students for occupational, trade, and technical careers.
WHAT IS AN OCCUPATION SPECIALIST?
An Occupation Specialist is an industry professional who works in a related field for each grouping of program areas offered by the school.
WHAT DOES THE OCCUPATION SPECIALIST DO?
The Occupation Specialist will spend approximately 2-3 hours onsite or virtually reviewing program educational materials, classrooms/labs, equipment, and graduation and employment outcomes.
The Occupation Specialist will complete an evaluation form and provide feedback to the on-site evaluation team regarding how well the program prepares students for entry-level employment.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DOES AN OCCUPATION SPECIALIST NEED TO HAVE?
- Minimum five years of practical work experience in the program area being reviewed.
- Does NOT have a conflict of interest with the school defined as past or current affiliation to inlcude:
- Partial ownership
- Current or former student, faculty, or administrative personnel
- Participation on the Program Advisory Committee
DOES AN OCCUPATION SPECIALIST NEED TRAINING TO COMPLETE THEIR REVIEW?
The Occupation Specialist will be provided with an ACCSC Occupation Specialist Training Guide and other materials to review prior to the on-site or virtual evaluation. Once joining the team for the review, an orientation covering the materials, objectives, and the Occupation Specialist Evaluation Form will be provided.
The on-site/virtual evaluation team is there to support the Occupation Specialist during the review.
