2019 Thoroughbred Makeover Volunteer Committees

The 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium will be here in no time! This year RRP would like to form several volunteer committees to support major aspects of the event both in the months leading up to and during the week of the event itself. Please take a look at the opportunites below and sign up in any and all areas of interest and we will follow up with you around June 15th! These opportunities are ideal for those who are planning to attend the Makeover in October; though individuals who cannot attend in person may still be able to contribute remotely.

Info Desk Coordinator

This person would lead a team of volunteers tasked with staffing our Info Desk in the Covered Arena throughout the event. They are there to serve as customer service representatives, answering questions for competitors, attendees, and sponsors. This team must be available to attend the Makeover. The Coordinator must be available to attend the entire week of the Makeover and will work closely with the Event Organizer to become well-versed in all aspects of the event.

Silent Auction Coordinator/Committee

An individual to lead a team of people soliciting silent auction donations and assisting bidders at the Makeover. The coordinator would be responsible for processing donations and posting them in the online catalog. Soliciting and cataloging are tasks that may be done remotely. Cataloging is best suited for someone comfortable with using web-based applications with strong writing/editing skills.

 

Volunteer Coordinator/Committee

This person would be a deputy to volunteer coordinator, Peg Sorenson, during the event. Peg and this person would head up a committee responsible for recruiting sufficient volunteers and making sure they’re well cared for and communicated with at the event and throughout the year. Persons with knowledge of local (Central Kentucky) clubs, student groups, etc would be particularly helpful.

 

Awards Coordinator/Committee

This person would work closely with RRP staff to have a complete knowledge of all awards in play, when they’ll be determined, when they’ll be announced/presented, and what the winners receive. They would work with our photographer to make sure pictures are captured of all awards, and sponsors are aware of when their awards will be presented. This committee would aid in soliciting prize donations and also manage distribution of prizes/awards during the competitor's party and finale. Prize solicitation may be done remotely.

 

Reception Coordinator/Committee

This could be two committees or one, responsible for setting up/decorating for the VIP lounge and competitors party. The coordinator of this committee should be local while others may assist with planning remotely if they intend to attend the event in October.

 

Admissions Coordinator

This person would lead a team of volunteers responsible for working admissions points in the covered arena during the Finale on Saturday. This person must be comfortable operating mobile devices to run EventBrite and Square, handling cash, and plan to attend the event in October.

 

Horse Registration Data Entry

We need a few more people to assist with reviewing horse registrations through the end of July. This is a task requiring a commitment of approximately 5 hours a week and is a great opportunity for remote volunteers. These volunteers will use a web-based application to review registrations for horses to be entered in the Makeover. They will gather racing data on the horses from Equibase and enter it to complete a profile on the entry. This task is best suited for someone comfortable with using web-based applications with strong writing/editing skills.
