West Cook Wild Ones
Our annual native plant sale is our biggest fundraiser and helps us pay our great speakers; create educational materials; and fund our Garden for Nature Grants. We depend on our dedicated volunteers to make this sale a success. We hope we can count on you this year!
We are offering timed, contact-free plant pick-up to all customers. We also will sell a limited selection plants at the time of pick-up this year. We will ask that all volunteers and customers observe appropriate social distancing and wear masks. We will limit the number people working at one time.
We are planning short Zoom training sessions in the week prior to the plant sale to help ensure productive time when onsite. These sessions will be recorded in case you cannot attend the live session.
Volunteer Roles Needed:
Plant Sorting: Tuesday, June 1 & Wednesday, June 2 8:30am-2:30pm each day with two shifts of three hours each day and Thursday, June 3 from 8:30 am-11:30 pm.
Plant Pick-up: Thursday, June 3 to Saturday, June 5 from 8:30 am-2:30 pm with two shifts of three hours each day.
We ask that you wear a mask and recommend wearing work gloves. If you can work multiple shifts (yay and thank you!), please bring your own snacks and drinks as we cannot share this year. We encourage family groups as they can work safely in close proximity of one another.
Volunteers can take their plant orders home with them at the end of their shift and do not need to schedule a pick-up slot.
We are partnering again with the Forest Preserve of Cook County who is generously providing us space for the sorting and pick-up. The sorting will occur in a large garage where we will be protected from the blazing sun or driving rain.
We are also excited to partner with University of Illinois Extension Service who provides experience and organizational support and access to their wealth of knowledge through their Master Gardener’s and Conservation at Home programs.
Most of all, we thank you for your help and for your love of native plants and pollinators!
