The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte provides a place for families to stay who have a sick or injured child in the hospital and who do not live nearby. Every day, volunteers go to the House and prepare home-baked goodies ("Cookie Crew") in the morning, a home-cooked meal at dinnertime and brunch on the weekends ("Meal Preparation") for the families staying at the House. LJCC Cares volunteers prepare a meal approximately every three months.
The group of volunteers is responsible for planning the menu and purchasing the ingredients to feed 70 people. The House has an amazing kitchen, so all pots, pans and cooking utensils are already there. Dinner is served from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. -- groups typically arrive no later than 4:00 or earlier depending on the complexity of the meal being prepared and the time necessary to prepare it. The volunteers will prepare the meal, set it up buffet-style and clean up. Leftovers are wrapped up and left for families who may not return from the hospital until after 7:00 p.m.
Please note that children must be at least 12 years old to participate per House rules and must be accompanied by a parent. No more than four children may attend.
