Please join us at our May NDWC meeting where instead of sandwich making, we will be making Power Packs for Food for Others in Fairfax County.
Food for Others is an important part of Northern Virginia’s safety net for those needing food when an emergency strikes, and for the growing number of working poor who are unable to make ends meet and need to supplement their inadequate food supplies.
We're going to help by making 200 Power packs. Power Packs are given to school aged children to eat over the weekend, distributed to 29 elementary schools with an average distribution of 1400 students every week in Fairfax County. For more details on the program, please see here https://www.foodforothers.org/p3-power-pack-program/
We've been speaking of doing a hands on activity at a meeting and this is your chance to not only participate but ensure we can make the 200 packs!
Please sign up for one or several slots of designated items. Each pack contains 2 breakfast items, 4 lunch/dinner items, 2 snack items and 2 drinks. NDWC will be purchasing the drink portion of the packs.
(Recommendation to purchase your items from Target, Costo or Amazon, though all of these can be found at your local grocery store.)
Please only purchase designated as the program is very specific about what goes into making each Power Pack. Absolutely no peanut butter or nut in any item, and no items in glass containers or tops with aluminum foil that will rip.
We will also need 35 plastic grocery bags to carry the packs, so please bring bags with no holes to the event.
Thank you in advance for your support in this project.
