Raleigh Little Theatre
Pride and Prejudice
Raleigh Little Theatre is seeking to replace three performers for its rescheduled production of Pride and Prejudice by Kate Hamill based on the novel by Jane Austen. This show will be presented in the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre.
For the safety of volunteers, staff, and students, all performers and crew members for this production of Pride and Prejudice must show proof of vaccination in order to participate. Other safety measures include: a mask requirement inside the building, a fully vaccinated staff, and an ongoing commitment to reduced class, crew, and audience sizes. RLT remains committed to prioritizing the health and safety of everyone who is working inside our facility and our community. You will be required to show proof of vaccination at the auditions.
About the Show
This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! Bold, surprising, boisterous, and timely, this P&P for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life than it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools…than the high-stakes game of love?
May 14, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre (at the intersection of Pogue and Everett Streets) on the RLT Campus.

The cast will be made up of 8 actors who will play multiple roles. The final doubling of character may change from what is indicated below.
Available Roles for our rescheduled production:
Roles for Female Presenting Performers
JANE (presents late 20s - early 30s). The eldest Bennet daughter. Kind, idealistic, different. Always tries to do the right thing.
MISS DE BOURGH. Lady Catherine’s daughter; a gremlin. Probably allergic to the sun. Underneath all her veils, she may be covered in scales.
MRS. BENNET. The matriarch of the Bennet family. Mostly a silly woman, of mean understanding and variable temper. Hypochondriac; when she’s upset, she fancies she’s dying. The business of her life is to get her daughters married. She traumatizes her family with some regularity.
MISS BINGLEY. A very rich young woman. Fancies herself witty. (may be played by a female presenting or male presenting performer, depending on the doubling.)
Roles for Male Presenting Performers
MR. DARCY (presents late 30s - 40s). One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self-control and good judgment.
