Arbor Lodge Tree Team
This fall, Arbor Lodge Tree Team is teaming up with Sparrowhawk Native Plants to put thousands of native plants into our communities - while raising money for north Portland trees. There are about 30 volunteer shifts available - so we need your help!
Please review the available volunteer slots below and click on the checkbox next to the shift you'd like to sign up for. Be sure to hit Submit and Sign Up at the bottom of this page to proceed to the next page.
We welcome youth to volunteer with us, but we do require that anyone under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult volunteering in the same shift.
We will be following Sparrowhawk's Covid-19 safety protocols.
Thanks so much for your support!
Thurs. Oct. 21, 1pm - 5pm: PLANT TAGGING & PREP
This shift will organize and label plants, as well as take inventory, before customers arrive. Volunteers will do some light moving of container plants and stick thousands of plant tags in pots - so there is lots of repetitive bending or squatting/sitting/kneeling on the ground. This task requires zero plant identification skills - and is perfect for people with strong backs who are excited to improve their plant identification skills. Outside, rain or shine.
Fri.-Sat Oct. 22-23, 2 shifts per day: PLANT SALE (multiple roles in each shift)
Morning shift: 8:30am - 12:30pm
Afternoon shift: 1pm - 5pm
Check-in Tent Support: Works alongside one Sparrowhawk staff to greet customers, pull order form from numerically-organized file-box, and provide thorough instructions. Must be very friendly and capable of giving clear instructions. Attention to detail required, but no lifting or bending. Must be able to stand in one place doing a repetitive administrative task for the full shift. Outside, but under a tent, rain or shine.
Plant Prepper: Love handling native plants and making them look their best? Then this role is for you! Help keep our plant inventory watered and looking tidy throughout the weekend by keeping rows neat and plant trays full. Also includes occasional customer service, as needed. Requires repetitive bending and light lifting. Outside, not under a tent, rain or shine.
Customer Service & Cart Wrangler: This role is great for friendly, outgoing folks that love interacting with the public and finding ways to help them have a fun experience. You will help pull plants for some folks, help others to their car, and wrangle the carts to keep them orderly. Native plant knowledge is a plus, but certainly not required. Outside, not under a tent, rain or shine.
Customer Service & Plant Prepper: This volunteer does a combination of the above two roles and is excellent for folks that are able to see the big picture and plug in where needed. Requires some repetitive bending and light lifting. Outside, not under a tent, rain or shine.
Plant Pro: Double checks plant orders at checkout to ensure everything is accurate and accounted for. This is the only role that requires native plant identification skills. All plants are labeled - but the task is much easier and smoother if you can quickly recognize many native plant species. Outside, mostly under a tent, rain or shine.
