Unity in the Community Volunteers
Our neighborhood still needs food and support. We have resumed our Food Fairs under some new conditions to protect volunteers and attendees. We receive 1500 packed boxes of fresh produce.
The Houston Food Bank has placed a storage container on the Unity parking lot and provided a forklift and pallet jack for our use. They will be delivering pallets of pre-packed boxes in advance of our distribution. Cars will be ushered through the drive-through and volunteers will place 2 boxes per family in their trunk. Walk-ups will be served at a walk-up table and also given 2 boxes. We are also giving gallons of milk. Thus we can serve up to 900 families.
Volunteers will load food in cars, serve families at the walkup (from a safe distance) and help manage the flow. We will provide gloves as usual, but will ask you to wear your own mask as mandated. We have some masks available if needed. Anyone not wearing a mask will be asked to leave and unable to participate.
Volunteers are also needed on Tuesday mornings for a shorter shift to help offload from the delivery truck to the storage container. Volunteers need to have physical strength, were protective shoes and wear a mask.
