Food Bank Farm Harvest
Thank you to everyone who has come out to the Food Bank Farm this Harvest Season!
We have a great Beet Root Chocolate Cake recipe below!
These are Rain or Shine events. Please sign up only if you are willing and able to work in the pouring rain of the Pacific Northwest.
Anyone can volunteer: Individuals & Families – all ages, Friends/Pods, Co-workers, High School students looking for volunteer hours, Scouts, Neighborhood Groups, Community Groups, everyone & anyone!
Keeping Safe: We will be working outside in fresh air with more than 6 feet of social distancing. Expect to have your temperature taken, answer screening questions as you get on-site. You can wash hands at our hand washing station and please wear a mask if you get within 10 feet of others. The on-site porta-potties will be regularly sanitized.
BEET HARVEST Volunteer Signup
If you have 3 people, please sign up for "3 Harvest Volunteer" slots. If you have 10, please sign up for 10 slots. The more the merrier!
What to Bring: Water, Mask, Work Gloves, Boots for the mud/dirt. Rain Gear!
We will harvest beets, twist off the leaves, and fill sacks in the field.
BEET WASHING Volunteer Signup
We need a crew of 10 people to wash beets using a mechanical conveyor belt system - like a potato conveyor belt. 5 of the crew need to be able bodied - adults or teens.
You NEED FULL RAIN GEAR - jacket and boots - as there’s water spraying everywhere and mud on the ground. Work gloves, Water and Mask.
Attached you will find directions to the Beet farm.
(1) From Hwy 9 head SOUTH on Old Snohomish-Monroe Road OR from Hwy 522 head NORTH on Old Snohomish-Monroe Road. Turn south(west) onto Treosti Road. You can set your Google map for the intersection of Treosti Rd & Old Snohomish Monroe Rd.
(2) Follow the signs back to the beet field. The field is on the north end of Harnden's Tree Nursery. (Don't go to Harnden's Nursery on Google Maps.)
