JHIS Field Day
Thank you for signing up to help with the first JHIS Field Day!!! The hope is that this will be a super fun event for everyone involved. Many volunteers are needed to make this day a success! The only requirement is to have valid clearances on file in the school office. If you are not sure, then please contact the office to verify.
Field day will be a full day event for all grades 3-5, with activities being held in five different sections around the school:
- on the playground
- in the grassy space that use to be the butterfly garden
- in the drop off lanes (AM only) - paved sidewalk next to playground (PM Only)
- on the baseball field
- in the gymnasium.
There will be games in the morning, indoor recess (kids will watch a movie) and lunch at their regular times in the cafeteria, and then a new set of activities in the afternoon. This is a competitive event, with scores being kept per team (five different color teams, each color represented in each grade level) at each station. The winning color team will be announced and their team picture will hang in the school for proper bragging rights. LOL! All of this information (rules, scoring, times, layout, etc.) will be further explained in a handout each registered volunteer will receive via email at a later date.
There will also be a mandatory volunteer meeting at JHIS at the end of May. You will get a separate email about this once you're a registered volunteer.
There are different ways to help:
- help a homeroom teacher move their team from station to station in an orderly fashion
- supervise the kids while waiting for their turn at each activity
- help promote good sportsmanship behavior
- assist the game supervisors as needed to keep the flow of the game moving at a steady pace
- lunch time teacher assistants will monitor the assigned homeroom in the classroom while they watch a movie (while teacher is on lunch break), and take the class to and from the cafeteria for lunch at their assigned times.
*Just a polite reminder: as much as many of us like the idea of hanging out with our own child all day, please be fair and give others a chance to pick this position for each homeroom. Meaning, please try not to sign up for your own childs homeroom for the entire day on first pick - but if it's still open after a few days, then feel free to take it. And remember, in this role you are helping to monitor ALL the kids in the classroom, not just your own. Thank you :-)
Station supervisors: Each game will need multiple supervisors. The roles will need to be quickly and efficiently explained to each grade that comes to your station. It's expected for each supervisor to know the rules of the game and be able to make any quick changes as needed to help make the game play more efficiently if a problem or unforseen situation should occur. Please feel free to ask for help from teacher assistants if needed.
Water station monitors : There will be two water stations outside. Big Water Jugs will be set out, and the monitors will help pre fill the little cups so the kids can grab a drink as they go by, and refill the jugs as needed.
Ritas Italian Ice Scoopers - one of the afternoon game stations will be Ritas Italian Ice. We will need lots of scoopers to help serve to the kids as they arrive at this station.
You can sign up to stay and help for the entire day, half day, or just as the indoor recess classroom supervisor for a homeroom (movie in their classroom and lunch in the cafeteria at their usual times).
A free lunch of pizza and salad will be provided for you, if you stay all day, during the lunch break. If you are an afternoon helper, please plan to help clean up at the end of the day.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Amanda Neeley, [email protected] or Jeremy Neeley, [email protected]
Thank you so much for your help to make this event a fun day for all the kids!
