Saturday for Seniors
Each Saturday a group of 60 - 70 older adults gathers at the Old Pine Community Center. Since 1978, this program has provided social fellowship, a free home-cooked noon meal and a bag lunch for seniors. The program is designed to provide Philadelphia seniors with a place to go on the weekend when the city senior centers are closed. The program is staffed by a paid cook, volunteers from the Old Pine Street Church, Drexel University and the community. We are open every Saturday except for major holiday weekends.
Volunteers are needed for two shifts:
Prep shift (9:30am - 1:15pm) to help the cook prepare the meal and serve a mid-morning snack. These volunteers stay through serving and clean-up.
Serving shift (11:30am - 1:15pm) to serve the meal and help with cleanup.
Families with children age 5 and older are welcome.
Address: 401 Lombard Street, Philadelphia PA 19147.
Email: [email protected]
The parking lot is located on 5th Street between Lombard and Pine Streets.
Volunteers are asked to tie back long hair or wear a hat. They should report to the kitchen upon arrival and ask for the "kitchen boss" - our term for the lead volunteer each week.
