Dear Wonderful Volunteers:
Some of you may know that Family Promise is still helping homeless families in our community, despite COVID-19. Of course, things are now being done differently. Families have been staying at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, instead of rotating through churches and synagogues. This means that guests will not be coming to St. Dunstan's during our host week, August 9-16. But we still need your help!
For our host week, we are asking you to do 3 things: 1) donate $25 gift cards (as many as you want!), 2) provide cleaning supplies and other items (paper towels, toilet paper, etc), and 3) volunteer to spend the night at St. Luke's. Guests will be doing their own grocery shopping and preparing their own meals. We will not need anyone to prepare meals or serve as dinner hosts. We also, obviously, will not need volunteers to set up, break down, or do laundry.
For those of you who are interested in spending the night, St. Lukes has outlined what to do (scroll down below this note and before sign-ups to "Related files") and prepared an excellent, 3-minute, viewer-friendly video clip: https://youtu.be/7SGj7jRONj8. Volunteers will be staying down the hall from guests, and interaction will be minimal, if at all, unless an emergency occurs. St. Lukes is located at 1978 Mt. Vernon Road.
Please drop off gift cards in the church office during the week of August 2 from 10 to 3. If no one is in the office, go to the back door of Tricia's office and insert cards into the cat door! For items such as snacks and paper towels, please leave at the front door of the church. Mark your donations "Family Promise." Otherwise, they will go to the Food Pantry.
Now for our guests: Nicola and her 3 teenaged children, Michael, 18, Rachel, 14, and Leah, 13; Abrie and her 10-year-old son, Dominc; and Kayla and her 10-year-old son, Isaiah.
As always, we are excited about the extraordinary opportunity to help families make the transition from homelessness to sustained independence -- while keeping their families together.
Don't hesitate to call one of the coordinators named below if you have any questions or suggestions.
