NSSH Choir

NSSH Choir In-Person Region Coachings

We are excited to begin in-person NSSH Choir coachings but will proceed with extreme caution as we work to ensure student and staff safety. Please prepare to be flexible as we navigate the rules and regulations established by Galena Park ISD, the state of Texas and Harris County while continually finding more efficient ways to operate safely. After school coachings are scheduled to start on Monday, September 21, 2020. Sign ups will be available at www.nsshchoir.com.

All students are required to have the following items with them everyday:

  • A mask or face covering that cover both the NOSE and MOUTH (to be worn at all times except for when one is consuming food/drink or when practicing outside with a minimum distance of 15 feet).

  • Any sheet music to be rehearsed.

  • Their OWN pencil.

  • All students should not bring any bags, backpacks, or items with them, unless instructed by the directors. No items for check in are necessary at this time.

Guidelines for After School Practices:

  • All students and staff will be required to self screen each day with temperature checks, onset of illness symptoms

  • There will be designated entry and exit points to limit traffic and number of people entering/exiting at the same time.

    • Students will be dropped off and picked up by the back choir door (behind the cafeteria) to minimize contact with any other individuals as well as high-touch surfaces such as door handles.

  • Students should report to practice in school-appropriate attire and leave as soon as practice has concluded to change and shower at home. There will be no use of restrooms (aside from hand washing one at a time), staying after practice, or congregating of any kind.

  • Students and staff are to practice safe social distancing by remaining at least 6 feet apart before, during, and after practices.

  • All school equipment will be thoroughly sanitized after each practice. Students should not be sharing any items at all.

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available, and students may wash hands in the bathroom one at a time. Students are encouraged to bring their own sanitizer.

  • No parents or visitors will be allowed in any of the facilities or at practices.

Individuals Confirmed, Suspected or Exposed to COVID-19

  • If a positive case is identified amongst any participant (staff or student) during these after school practices, the group to which that staff or student belonged must be removed from the sessions. All members of the group will be required to self-quarantine as required by current TEA guidelines.

  • Any participant confirmed to have been in contact with another person discovered to have COVID-19, will also be required to self-quarantine as required by current TEA guidelines.

  • Students may be allowed to return to practices if they obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis or receive two separate confirmations at least 24 hours apart that they are free of COVID via acute infection tests at an approved COVID-19 testing location.

  • Students will be encouraged to use the Legacy clinic in the south wing of NSSH.

Practice Attendance

We understand with the late scheduling of these practices and the current pandemic environment that you may not be able to attend. We also know that you understand the incredible importance of being prepared for a successful performance. Understanding this, we ask you to attend as many of these important practices as possible so that we may continue to progress as a choir. Please understand that the staff will make decisions on an individual basis regarding students' preparedness to perform and may ask any student not to attend recording sessions if they feel that they are not prepared to perform. Last, please communicate with the directors of any cancellations at least 24 hours in advance.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of the directors.
