Open to Everyone
Sew, stuff, and embroider a festive autumn pear with fiber artists Alana Tibbets and Ana Sumner. Students will be introduced to a variety of methods for creating texture with hand stitching and other embellishments. This is a two-part class. During the first hour, participants will hand sew a practice pear. The pattern for the pear and sewing needles will be provided. To make your pear, you will need the following:
10x14 inch piece of medium weight, natural fiber fabric (wool, linen, cotton or silk)
2 ounces of polyester fiberfill
sewing thread to match your fabric
marking pen or pencil
During the second hour, participant will be introduced to a variety of methods for creating texture with hand stitches and begin embellishing. Because you may not have finished your first pear, a life-sized, stuffed pear ready for embroidery will be provided. This pear will be made of off-white canvas.
Pearl cotton and embroidery floss will be provided, but if you have embellishment materials you would like to use, feel free to bring them.
