St. Matthew's Church Interfaith Team
Interfaith is a volunteer effort where individuals, entire families, the young, the old and everyone in between can participate for a worthwhile cause. This is a wonderful way to serve our community and give just a few hours of your time. Here are a few easy ways to participate in the IHN outreach project. While our guests are residing with us, we will need volunteers for dinner, transportation, overnight and laundering linens. Whether this is your first time or you have volunteered in the past, we have dedicated coordinators that will guide you through each of the volunteer opportunities, and answer any questions that you may have. This is a busy time of year for everyone. Please signup early and often, this is a huge undertaking that requires everyone’s assistance.
Dinner: Volunteers provide dinner and enjoy sharing a meal with our guest families. Volunteers arrive at the parish hall at 5:45PM. Enjoy dinner with our guests at 6:15PM, and the overnight host relieves you at 7:30PM.
Overnight host: There are 2 overnight volunteers scheduled for each night. This is usually a nice quiet time to sit and talk with our guests or catch up on some of your own personal reading. Each volunteer has a private sleeping accommodation in either the Jay's office or Dave’s office. Overnight hosts have the option of an air mattress or cot for your sleeping pleasure! The overnight hosts are responsible for locking up at night and being a hospitable host. We lock the door at 10:00PM and observe quiet time. We ask that you arrive at the parish hall by 7:30PM and leave after the guests depart in the morning at 7:00AM on weekdays (9:00AM on Saturday).
Transportation: We typically have guests that require transportation. This year, we will have access to the IHN van. Drivers can use the van to transport the families to and from St. Matthews. Driver volunteers will need to be registered/certified before using the van. This is a simple process that only takes a few minutes. More details will be provided before the start of June. This should eliminate the need for multiple drivers and the need to move/remove car seats. Volunteers will drive guests without transportation at 6:45 AM to Hope Gardens, (31 S. Spring Garden St. Ambler, PA 19002) or pick them up at 5:45 PM to drive them back to St. Matthew's. It’s only an 8-minute trip! This is a great opportunity for us to get acquainted with our guests.
