Huntersville United Methodist Church
For 20 years Huntersville United Methodist Church has partnered with the Urban Ministry Center and other area churches to sponsor a ministry called "Room in the Inn" in which we provide twelve homeless neighbors a warm and safe place to sleep, a hot shower, three meals, and love and fellowship. The ministry offers a unique way for people of faith to become directly involved with people who are homeless.
For HUMC this occurs on every Wednesday night during December, January, February and March. Urban Ministry provides the central location for homeless neighbors to go through a carefully formatted intake and registration process and then gather to be picked up and brought to our church.
This ministry needs MANY volunteers. Possible ways to serve include:
v Serving as the overall coordinator for 3 to 4 evenings
v Helping to organize the fellowship hall for each evening event
v Inflating our air mattress beds and making them up
v Driving our church van to both pick up our guests on Wednesday evenings and returning them to Charlotte early Thursday morning
v Being part of a group that cooks and serves supper for our guests
v Spending the night to supervise and generally be a chaperone
v Providing breakfast for our guests
v Providing bag lunches for our guests
v Deflating and storing the air mattresses and generally reorganizing the fellowship hall on Thursday morning after our guests have departed.

The simple goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. A greater goal is to provide a more personal relationship to homeless people, at least for a night, and a deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of being homeless.
