SASO - Parent Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Scholars & Athletes Serving Others needs you! The success & longevity of our organization relies on our parent volunteers in the form of philanthropy liaisons, event captains, and board members. We ask that all mothers involved in SASO take on one of these roles within the organization. Please review the list below with role descriptions, then select how you'd like to share your time & talents with us!

A. Board Member: Treasurer-Elect

Learn from current treasurer and be prepared to take over role next year. Maintain and distribute monthly financial statements, pay invoices, track income, attend monthly board meetings.

 

A. Board Member: PVSA Coordinator

Point person for SASO on all PVSA related information and questions and will act as the administrator for the SASO account on the PVSA website. Attend monthly board meetings.

9/16/18 - Promote event within SASO to recruit volunteers. Communicate with event staff before and during event. Attend event (Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk) and coordinate volunteer efforts.

Oct - Recruit & coordinate volunteers to assist with set up, working the games, and cleanup for this Saturday event. Attend the event & help coordinate volunteer efforts.

Takes place Sept. to Nov. Communicate about & promote coat drive within SASO and the Fairfield community via email, flyers, etc. Coordinate collection locations and delivery of donated coats to BRM.

10/20/18 - Promote event within SASO to recruit volunteers. Communicate with event staff before and during event. Attend event (Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk) and coordinate volunteer efforts.

 

C. Event Captain - Bigelow Center for Senior Activities - FALL leaf raking for seniors (2)

Coordinate the assignment of SASO volunteers to seniors in need of leaf raking. Dates (usu. in Oct.) to be selected by Captain. Coordinate with Senior Center staff. Be present on day of raking to assist with house assignments & distribution of supplies.

An as-needed role depending upon winter weather. After winter snowstorms, work with Senior Center staff to coordinate SASO boys who've volunteered to shovel snow for area seniors.

 

C. Event Captain - Bridgeport Rescue Mission - Toiletry Drive (4)

Can take place any 4 week time period during the year. Responsible for communicating about & promoting toiletry drive within SASO and the Fairfield community via email, flyers, etc. Coordinate collection locations and delivery of donated items to BRM.

Work with WARDE Event Captains to coordinate this annual event, which culminates with final collection efforts Thanksgiving morning at the Warde/Ludlowe football game. Coordinate delivery of donations to O.H. Pantry the following week.

 

C. WARDE Event Captain - Operation Hope – Thanksgiving Food Drive (2)

Work with LUDLOWE Event Captains to coordinate this annual event, which culminates with final collection efforts Thanksgiving morning at the Warde/Ludlowe football game. Coordinate delivery of donations to O.H. Pantry the following week.
