We need 2 nursing students to volunteer at San Francisco Christian Center, 5845 Mission Street, San Francisco from 1 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. We originally started doing blood pressure screening only, but now we do blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings and health care consultation. It's about 10 minutes from SFSU. This is a group of 20 - 25 African American Seniors who are in need of resources and information about good health care practices, nutrition and overall well being. This is a new volunteer event and we plan to have it every Wednesday this Fall Semester.
If any of the students would like to do a formal presentation on a health related topic, that could be arranged.
This is open to all levels of nursing students. We prefer that a level 1 student is paired with a higher level. Please bring YOUR OWN BLOOD PRESSURE CUFF AND STETHOSCOPE. You can wear any colored scrubs and bring your SFSU nursing student ID. This is a great opportunity to interact with clients and practice taking doing health screenings.
