Please join Holy Comforter for a Michaelmas celebration on Tuesday, September 28th beginning with sung Vespers at 6pm and followed by a festive dinner.
A basilica was dedicated in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel in the fifth century on September 30th. Celebrations began on the eve of that day (September 29th). Michaelmas was celebrated as a Holy Day of Obligation until the 18th century and September 29th is now kept as the feast of the Archangels. We will be celebrating it on September 28th so confessions on Wednesday can carry on as usual :)
Some traditional foods include St. Michael's Bannock, blackberry dishes, carrot dishes, and goose (the folklore and traditions associated with these foods are fun!) While goose will not be served (unless someone brings it), we will be serving meatballs and chicken with a blackberry barbecue sauce. Please consider bringing a traditional or unique dish or drink that compliments the feast day. Creativity encouraged and label your dish!! We will provide the pens and note cards
