The First Tee of Greater San Antonio Staff
Without caring mentors, positive youth development just doesn’t happen. At The First Tee, we take coaching seriously. We believe that a meaningful, quality relationship between coach and participant is vital to our program.

Our program would not be where it is today without the help and support we’ve received from our enthusiastic volunteers and mentors. We are always looking for new volunteers! We need your help in order to continue impacting the lives of youth in our community.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities
The First Tee Programming
Clerical Support- Clerical volunteers are needed to help during programming with answering the phone, data entry, filing, registration, etc.
Gardening/Beautification: This volunteer would help keep the facilities. Many participants don’t come from the best of homes and we want our facility to be a nice, safe place where they will want to come
Promoter/Fundraiser: Promoters and Fundraisers educated the community about services the Chapter provides to the participants. They also research opportunities to help support the Chapter endeavors.
Rules Official: Assist players with rules questions that may arise during tournament rounds. Monitor pace of play and assist with tournament scoring.
Spanish Translator-This volunteer can translate interpreter materials from English to Spanish.
The First Tee Coach: The First Tee Coaches are actively enrolled in The First Tee Coach Program and attend network training over a period of 3-4 years. An individual interested in leading classes and dedicating more than 75 hours a year to instruction should consider this avenue
Play Day Coordinator- These volunteers are needed to help coordinate 9-hole play days. Responsibilities include arriving early, greeting participants, and assigning them to groups, monitoring pace of play and safety, ensuring participants thank host facility and contacting participants if the play day is cancelled due to inclement weather.
The First Tee Mentoring
Lead Mentor-Lead mentors organize and lead other volunteers in the delivery of Life Skills, Golf skills, class set up and procedures. They ensure that programming and activities are consistent with The First Tee Life Skills Experience
Mentor-Mentor volunteers assist staff and lead mentors in teaching The First Tee Life Skills Experience to participants, provide positive feedback, and encourage participant behavior to help ensure a safe learning environment.
Tutor-Instructs an individual participant or a small group of participants on their academic work.
Special Events- Volunteer that help with special events assist staff with fundraising events. Activities include promoting the program, organizing activities for participants, passing out information and soliciting donations
