Saturday May 15 10am we will join Bill Dodd for a tour of the Jonesborough battlefield, sites of the last fighting before the fall of Atlanta. Bill will share copies of his work on the military actions that ultimately determined Atlanta's fate in the first days of September 1864.
We will commence at 10am on May 15 just west of downtown Jonesboro where the Confederates occupied their highest ground as the major action began. We will examine additional sites in downtown Jonesboro including the Confederate cemetery, and we hope to be able to tour the Warren House, which served as both a Union and Confederate field hospital.
We will bring our own picnic lunches to enjoy at the train depot and we will wrap up before 130pm. And we will proceed rain or shine so please be prepared for inclement weather.
We will strictly adhere to CDC guidelines such that everyone must wear a mask when indoors, maintain proper social distancing, and bring their own water and lunch. We will drive separate vehicles.
While there will be no fee for this tour, online contributions will support the Georgia Battlefields Association. Contributions are always welcomed at this web address:
There may be a fee at the Warren House.
Additional logistical guidance will be distributed when the registration is complete.
While we are limiting registrations, as this fills we encourage others to register in standby slots. We have seen some cancellations and welcome standby registrants to join us as space becomes available.
