PASADENA PTA CHAIRPERSON and VOLUNTEER SIGNUPS

Below are the descriptions for our standing, fundraising and programming committees.  We encourage volunteers to sign up for committees that best fit their availability and interests.

 

STANDING/DISTRICT COMMITTEES:

BOARD OF EDUCATION

Requires attendance at bi-monthly Board of Education meetings occurring on Monday evenings.  Chairperson reports to membership at PTA meetings (year-round activity) Great for a working parent!

BUDGET

Attends Board of Education Budget Meetings and then reports back to our PTA about the school budget; works with PTA Council VP Budget on designing promotional materials and coordinates volunteers to distribute flyers in advance of Budget Vote in May.  Budget Meetings: TBD

CURRICULUM

Chairpersons represent Pasadena at monthly district-wide curriculum meetings and report back to membership.  May also be asked to help with district STEAM night.  (Must be available to attend monthly daytime morning meetings)

HEALTH

Attends monthly district health meetings and reports back to our PTA; brings PTA concerns to full committee. (Must be available to attend daytime meetings)

NUTRITION

Attends the district meetings and reports back to our PTA; brings PTA concerns to full committee. (Must be available to attend daytime meetings)

TECHNOLOGY

Attends district-wide meetings and reports to our PTA of proposed events; brings PTA concerns to full committee. (Usually meetings are in the evening)

SITE BASED MANAGEMENT

Attend meetings with staff and administrators to discuss problems with the physical structure of Pasadena and its surroundings.  Must be available to meet prior to school day at approximately 8:45 a.m. every other month.

TITLE IX

The purpose of this committee is to develop, strengthen, and raise awareness of gender equity through education and communication.  We accomplish this by securing and promoting celebrations of women's achievements that foster gender equity, distributing materials, monitoring issues within the school community, and encouraging student participation.  Attends district-wide meetings and reports to our PTA of proposed events; brings PTA concerns to full committee.  (Must be available to attend daytime meetings)

TRANSPORTATION AND SAFETY

Attends district-wide meetings and reports to our PTA; brings parent concerns to full committee. Acts as liaison between the committee and PTA.  (Must be able to attend daytime meetings)

PTA COUNCIL DELEGATES & ALTERNATES

Delegates and alternates attend monthly PTA Council Meetings, held at night at alternating schools in the district, representing Pasadena PTA and reporting back to the membership.  The meetings are usually from 7:30-9pm.  Five delegates and five alternates are selected, and an alternate votes only in the absence of a delegate.  Great way to find out the happenings in the district.  (Perfect for a working parent) 

LIAISONS – must go to the other unit’s PTA meetings and report back at Pasadena PTA meetings:  POBMS, POBJFKHS, SEPTA, MAPOB, PCPA

 

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEES:

KIDSTUFF COUPON BOOKS

Distribute flyers on first day of school and fill book orders as received.  Must be available during the day to distribute flyers and coupon books.

BIRTHDAY BOX

Purchases and keep materials stocked in PTA closet. (water bottles, Rice Krispy treats, pretzels, mini Oreos and t-shirts)  Create a card on computer, or by hand, with student name and teacher name. Put the snack and water into a box.  It is important to coordinate with the head custodian, for delivery. (Costco account would be helpful)

BOOK FAIR

Chair people must coordinate delivery of books, set up fair, schedule volunteers, distribute flyers, arrange for pickup of reorders, and repack remaining books.  Must call volunteers to arrange for coverage during school hours and during afternoon and evening conferences.  Must be available to attend Book Fair for many hours during the 3 day fair, including the afternoon and evening for Parent-Teacher Conferences. BOX TOPS

Chairperson will be responsible for collecting and mailing in all Box Tops as well as sending home monthly collection sheets for kids to affix Box Tops to. Box Tops must be sorted in bags of 50 and cannot be expired. Great job for working parent!

PRESTIGE/YANKEE CANDLE

Switch every other year between Prestige catalog and Yankee Candle catalog.  October 2018 will be Yankee Candle.  Responsible for distributing catalog packets, collecting orders and coordinating distribution when items are delivered by vendor.

VALENTINE'S DAY FUNDRAISER

Responsibilities include working with the VP Fundraising to prepare a Valentine’s Day Fundraiser such as Incredible Feets. Great job for a working parent!

CLOTHING/MERCHANDISE SALE (SPIRIT WEAR)

Chairperson meets with Co President’s, 1st VP and VP Fundraising to select new merchandise. Oversees organization of spirit wear in closet and should try to attend school functions when possible where spirit wear is sold. 

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

Selects items to be offered at our Holiday Boutique, sets up merchandise several days prior to sale, schedules volunteers to assist students with their purchases, counts and repacks inventory at conclusion of sale.  Date: TBD

MIXED BAG DESIGNS

Distribute brochures, collect order forms and distribute orders once they are received.  Great job for a working parent!

PARENTS NIGHT OUT

Organizes our annual Parents Night Out event in May.  Collects raffle items and donations and assists with baskets, schedules event and prepares flyer.  Date: 5/3/19

PLANT SALE

Chairperson arranges with vendor for preorder sales and delivery of plants, and schedules committee volunteers to assist children during the sale.  Must be available to attend 3 consecutive daytime sale dates in early May. Volunteers needed to set up the plant sale and break it down at the end of the sale. Date: TBD

PRETZEL SALE

Chairperson is responsible for ordering and pick up of pretzels from vendor and scheduling committee members and volunteers to work monthly sales.  Needs to be at the school once a month from approximately 9:45-11:00.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Chairperson arranges for distribution of flyer, collects orders and arranges for distribution of kits.

THIRD GRADE SQUARE DANCE

Prepares flyer, organizes activity, volunteers and refreshments. Date: TBD

FOURTH GRADE PARTY

Prepares flyer, organizes event (location, entertainment, etc), coordinates chaperones. Date: TBD

FOURTH GRADE T-SHIRTS

Designs fourth grade t-shirt, collects size information, arranges for distribution of shirt.

FOURTH GRADE YEARBOOK

Create and organize the publication of the fourth grade yearbook.

FOURTH GRADE SLIDESHOW: Prepares an 8 minute slideshow to be shown at moving up day.

MOVING UP DAY

Chairperson must coordinate event, which takes place at the end of June.  Must arrange for decorations and refreshments and distribute programs during day of ceremony. Cannot be 4th grade parent  Date:TBD

 

SCHOOL RELATED EVENTS/ACTIVITIES:

BLOOD DRIVE

Coordinates Pasadena’s participation in annual district-wide PTA Blood Drive.  Requires attendance at district-wide meetings, distribution of flyers, and oversees class parent phone calls soliciting donors and collect sign-up sheets. (Major blood drive usually takes place in December, second scheduled for May)

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Help plan and execute community service projects throughout the year. (VP of Community Service chairs this committee but we do need volunteers)

FAMILY PICNIC (SPRING)

Plans end of year picnic. (vendors, DJ, food, etc). Prepares flyer. Date: TBD

PARP (Parents As Reading Partners)

Chairpersons must plan activities for students, invite and schedule guest readers to visit classrooms, and must schedule committee volunteers to assist with events throughout the week.  Must also prepare packets and distribute them to students.  Event usually takes place in late January or early February. Date: TBD

BULLETIN BOARD

Obtains photographs and designs our monthly bulletin board with different themes and school events. (year-round responsibility)

FIELD DAY

Works with Physical Education teachers to set-up the field for the activities.  Organizes water and balloon donations and pick-up from local vendors.  Coordinates with custodians to have water refrigerated in advance of the date.  Works with school secretary to have labels printed for identification of water bottles.  Also helps with design, ordering and distribution of Field Day t-shirts and coordinates our Health and Wellness Spirit Week during the week of Field Day.  Must be available daytime for the week leading up to Field Day.
