CDA/VWU Empty Bowls Charity Dinner 13 March 2020

Annual fundraising event in support of local charities that feed the hungry in south Hampton Roads communities.  Hosted by Ceramic Designers Association and Virginia Wesleyan University in VWU's Batten Center.  Volunteers are needed for setup, during the dinner and for clean-up.  Guests first go to the bowl room where they select a hand-made bowl to keep from one of hundreds donated, then they proceed to the food line where they receive a simple soup and bread meal (reminescent of what a hungry/homeless person might receive at a shelter) and then eat in the dining room where there is live entertainment and a silent auction of donated art work.  The charities that receive the proceeds from the event are on hand to discuss their missions for those interested. Volunteers are needed in the bowl room, the food line, the dining area and the silent auction.  An experienced lead volunteer in each room provides guidance to and coordinates the efforts of the other volunteers.  Please check in with the volunteer coordinator at the front entrance table at least 5 minutes before your shift starts to receive your nametag and meal ticket.  And please be flexible if at some point during your shift your assistance is needed in a different area. If you have mobility or other physical limitations please contact the volunteer coordinator prior to the event so that a suitable volunteer task can be identified.  SignUp Genius will send you an email reminder of the position(s)/time slot(s) that you've volunteered for 2 days before the event.  Your email and phone number (optional entry) are not visible to other participants, just to the Volunteer Coordinator.
