As a volunteer at Simpson House you will meet the shelters overnight guests. Simpson is careful to allow only men and women who are considered safe to enter the shelter. The majority of our guests are working part or full time. Many guests are immigrants trying to get started with their new life in the USA. Some guests struggle with chemical dependency and mental illness. As a member of the St. Bartholomew team you will be working with 8-12 people. Your job will be to prepare, serve, possibly eat with the guests (if you desire) and clean up.
The shelter is located at 2740 1st Avenue South. (Simpson United Methodist Church). Parking for volunteers is available behind the church. Enter the small parking lot from the alley off of 28th street between Nicollet and 1st. The volunteer entrance is accessible from this lot.
Please Arrive at 5:15pm
Dinner is served at 7pm and followed by clean up.
We generally we conclude around 8:30pm
(NOTE: If your desired time slot is filled please do not be discouraged. We are constantly trying to match the needs of Simpson House and the response of our parishioners to make it work for everyone. Please go to our parish Justice and Service website or send an email to Emily Dalsky to find more opportunities.)
