UKirk at VCU
The students and staff of UKirk (Presbyterian Campus Ministry) and the Pace Center (United Methodist Campus Ministry) at VCU gather weekly for a program called "Stories and lunch"--a weekly meal and a time of storytelling on Wednesday afternoons at 12:00pm. Each week students from all sectors of the VCU campus gather at the Pace Center (700 W Franklin St, by Monroe Park) for food, fellowship, and listening. Both the students and campus ministers work to create efficient programming for the storytelling portion, but we rely heavily on volunteers to provide nutritious lunches each week. With our increase in numbers recently we are encouraging individuals and groups within our churches/community to partner together in this initiative. Volunteer duties include preparing meals (cooking food of your choosing either in your home or at the Pace Center Kitchen), delivering food to Pace by 11:45am, and assisting with set up as you are able. Please note that students and staff will be available to help you as needed in these tasks.
At the end of last semester we averaged about 25 students each week. We also want our meals to be a place for everyone to enjoy food and fellowship together. Therefore vegetarian and gluten free options in meals are highly encouraged. Please do not commit to this if you are not willing to help accommodate these needs. Questions? Feel free to email Kelley Connelly at [email protected] Thank you for feeding our students!
