Welcome to Allentown ArtsFest!
If you've found this page, you likely already know some of what ArtsFest is about, but just in case, we'll break it down here for you...
Allentown ArtsFest is run by an Allentown-based, community-focused non-profit art organization known as The Alternative Gallery. The AG is run entirely by volunteers, and seeks to improve our local community by making art of all types accessible to everyone, regardless of income.
Our hard working volunteers, the AG Crew, host hundreds of events each year at our facility, The Cigar Factory Artists' Studios, which feature local and touring bands of all genres, art shows for working and aspiring artists, affordable children's art classes, film screenings, and more. In addition, we host Social Medium, a free open mic where musicians, poets, comedians, and more share and hone their talents every Sunday night. We also open our doors on the last Thursday of each month for a building-wide open house where we encourage our guests to wander our halls, meet our resident artists, check out the latest basement graffiti mural, and come together for a night of art and music with their friends and neighbors.
While we have our plates full with all of the regular activity going on in the building, a few years ago we decided that we wanted to involve more of our neighbors in our mission, and in 2014, Allentown ArtsFest was launched. An admission free, three day festival that highlights the diverse art, music, food, and culture to be found in our local area, ArtsFest offers something for everyone to enjoy.
The highlights of ArtsFest include a full scale skate park, large graffiti murals created on site, break-dancing battles, screenings of independent films and shorts, comedy and improv sets, children's art activities, live art and technology demos, great local food and craft beers, over 60 musical performances of all genres, the most unique and interesting artwork we can find from our local and regional art community, and in 2017 we opened up the fest to include street performers of all varieties!
If you're a juggler, fire dancer, magician, sword swallower, or have some other unique talent or skill that you'd like to share with our audience, we'd like to invite you to join us at ArtsFest this year. Read on for more info about how to get involved in Allentown ArtsFest 2018...

How does Busking at ArtsFest work?
Throughout the festival grounds, there will be designated areas where performers can set up to do their stuff for the crowd.
The designated areas will be on or next to the main paved walking paths, or in grassy areas, as needed to accommodate your performance.
Buskers are not required to pay any fee to reserve their space, nor will they be directly compensated by ArtsFest. All buskers are permitted (and encouraged) to put out their "hat" and receive tips from the audience for their performances.
Buskers, once approved, may choose to join us for as long as they like, whether it is for just an hour, or the whole three day event.
Do I have to give back a percentage of my earnings?
No way! We want all of our artists to be as profitable as possible.
How many people attend ArtsFest?
As it is an admission free festival, there are no ticket sales to monitor attendance, but conservative estimates place 2018 at over 25,000 guests!
How do I get approved to be an Official ArtsFest Busker?
Read through to the bottom of this page, then follow the directions to submit your info for approval.
Our committee will review your submission, and will send you an email letting you know if you're good to go, if we need more info, or if we are unable to accommodate you this year.
If your performance type requires approval from City Hall (such as acts involving fire, for example), we will work with you to get all details sorted before the fest opens. If there is a fee required for any permits or other related items, they will be the sole responsibility of the performer.
By registering as a Busker though this signup, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
All performers must submit their request for consideration through this online signup, and if approved, agree to not deviate from the approved performance type without prior approval of Allentown ArtsFest.
All performers must receive written (or emailed) approval from an authorized Allentown ArtsFest representative in order to perform at the event. Unauthorized performers may be asked to leave the event.
All performers agree to refrain from profanity, nudity, and illegal activity throughout the duration of their time spent at Allentown ArtsFest, both while performing and while attending the event as a guest.
All performers agree to limit their performance to actions that would be generally considered to be "family-friendly" and appropriate for all audiences.
All performers are permitted to request and receive tips from audience guests. Requests for tips may be made during the performance in a general manner to the audience via verbal requests or signage. Performers may not directly request tips from individuals in a manner that is aggressive, nor shall tips be required of anyone in order to view their performance.
Any performances involving the use of fire (such as fire dancing, fire swallowing, or other similar acts), a permit is required from the City of Allentown, and must be presented to Allentown ArtsFest organizers prior to the start of said performance. All proper safety equipment, including but not limited to, fire extinguishers, caution tape, signage, etc., must be available for use during each performance.
Performers will be assigned specific areas in which they may perform upon arrival and check in at the event. Performance areas may be confined to one specific location, open to several stated locations, or permission may be granted for performers to move throughout the festival grounds, based on the type and nature of the performance and its specific space requirements.
Performances may not interfere with other interested parties participating in the festival including vendors, stage performers, volunteers, and staff.
Performances may not impede traffic flow to other festival attractions, nor hinder other performances or activities taking place in the neighboring areas of the festival.
Any and all dissemination of information, pamphlets and documentation shall be limited to your assigned performance area(s) and not in the common areas and/or any area outside of your assigned space unless authorized by Allentown ArtsFest.
All existing Cedar Beach Park rules are in full force and effect during festival hours unless otherwise authorized by Allentown ArtsFest.
Allentown ArtsFest and Alternative Gallery, Inc. are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged equipment or material.
All performers agree to indemnify and hold harmless Alternative Gallery Inc, Allentown ArtsFest, and their volunteers and staff for any bodily harm or property damage which occurs as a result of their participation in the event.
Failure to adhere to the above stated conditions may result in immediate removal from the event grounds and/or refusal of requests to perform at future events hosted by the festival organizers.
