“In the words of the morning blessings, we recognize the task of spiritual practice is to open our eyes, to free us from our obsessions, to keep us from falling into confusion, and when we do, to lift us up. It is to touch us with beauty and to strengthen our courage and our faith. It is to remind us of how miraculously our needs are being met as our steps are guided along our life’s path day to day.”
--Rabbi Sheila Peltz Weinberg
In an ideal world, this teaching from R’ Weinberg would be reflected in our lives as individuals and as a community grounded in spiritual practice. Without being able to gather in-person, many of our usual sources of spiritual sustenance and grounding have been disrupted or altered at best. In this series, we will experiment in a sort of “Jewish practice lab.” Each week, we will learn about a particular Jewish practice--some ancient, some contemporary--and try it on for two weeks. In the following session, we will reflect on our experiences with the practice and then learn about a new one! By engaging in these practices, we will learn more about ourselves as spiritual beings and how we might nourish our souls through this time and beyond.
