2019 Self-Advocacy Workshop Series

DSACO hosts an annual Self-Advocacy Workshop Series open to our teens and adults who have a disability age 14 and older. The purpose of this series is to come alongside our participants and educate them on topics that will allow them to advocate for themselves in their daily lives.

This Workshop Series will cover "SAFETY." Participants will be charged $15 for the entire series. Participants cannot pick and choose sessions. 

*MUST BE 14 OR OLDER TO ATTEND*

 

Session 1: Basic Self-Defense/ Good Touch vs. Bad Touch

Date/Time: February 4th, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. 

Location: DSACO Office 

Speaker:  Lt. Wayne Barney will teach Good Touch vs. Bad Touch and Sgt. Felix Valadez will teach basic self-defense. 

Summary: How to identify a dangerous situation, defend oneself and differentiate between good touch and bad touch. 

 

Session 2: Cyber Security/ Social Media Safety

Date/Time: February 11th, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. 

Location: DSACO Office 

Speaker:  Jen Randle 

Summary: How to identify a dangerous situation, how to set boundaries and how to advocate for oneself online. 

 

Session 3: Peer Pressure/ Self-Awareness 

Date/Time: February 18th, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. 

Location: DSACO Office 

Speaker:  Jen Randle 

Summary: How to identify and protect oneself from harmful peer pressure, and how to cultivate self-awareness.
