Join your troop for a two-night overnight campout with an approximate 4-hour white water rafting trip down Brown’s Canyon on Saturday morning, led by Independent Whitewater rafting company. We will be camping at the rafting company’s private campground, right on the river where we will be taken out after the rafting trip. All scouts participating in rafting will be required to pass a BSA swim check prior to the trip (details on swim check opportunities to be sent later in a separate communication!).
- When? Friday May 20th to Sunday May 22nd. Meet at Scout Hut at 5:00PM on Friday.
- Where? Independent Whitewater private campground, 14350 CR 193 Salida Colorado, 81201.
- Who? EVERYONE!
- Cost? $140 per person (includes $110 to rafting company for half day trip with lunch and 2 nights at campground, meals for rest of weekend and fuel to get there and back)
General plan is to meet at the Scout Hut Friday at 5:00PM, load the trailer and hit the road. Scouts should bring a sack dinner with them to eat on the car ride, there is no dinner planned for Friday night. The rafting company will pick up the group at the campsite to take to the drop in point up the river. They will provide helmets, life jackets, wet suits if desired and booties if desired, then head to the river. It can be cool this time of year so good idea to bring a windbreaker or NON-COTTON jacket on the rafting trip (guides usually have a dry-bag that they will let you put jacket in). It will end at our campsite where we will get off the river. Scouts will be cooking Saturday breakfast and dinner, along with Sunday breakfast. Saturday lunch is provided by the rafting company. After breakfast on Sunday scouts will break down camp, pack up and head back to the scout hut.
Please try to RSVP as soon as possible so that we can get an accurate headcount for the rafting company.
If you are an adult joining the troop on this trip and driving, please indicate how many people you can transport in your response.
