Animal Welfare Association
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE BLURB. IT CONTAINS CRUCIAL INFORMATION FOR ADOPTING.
Currently, Animal Welfare Association is offering adoptions by appointment only. This enables us to maintain the fewest people possible in our Adoption Center at one time during our ongoing construction.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING AN ANIMAL, THEN PLEASE CHOOSE ONE OF THE AVAILABLE SLOTS AND SIGN UP. Please keep in mind - your adoption appointment is to meet one of the animals who are available at your appointment time. Your adoption appointment is not to specify which animal you would like to meet with or to reserve a meet with a specific animal.
PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE BELOW TO SEE WHICH ANIMALS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT. Those animals listed on our website are the only available animals to meet and adopt. If you are not interested in any of those animals listed on our website, then please cancel your appointment. This will open up the appointment for someone else.
THE ADOPTION CENTER HAS MOVED! Please note the Adoption Center is now temporarily operating out of our "Pet Clinic" building (the brick building at the bottom of our driveway), while we are under construction. Please go into the "Pet Clinic" building for your adoption appointment.
TO MAKE THE ADOPTION PROCESS AS SEAMLESS AS POSSIBLE, WE ASK YOU PLEASE FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT. Please keep in mind – your adoption application does not guarantee you to meet any specific animal, and it does not reserve any specific animal for you to meet or adopt. Do not list a specific pet on your application. Your adoption application will be automatically emailed to our Adoptions Team and easily pulled up on the day of your appointment. The adoption process usually takes at least an hour, so please plan accordingly.
IF YOU ARE MORE THAN 10 MINUTES LATE for your appointment, then you will be asked to leave and you will have to reschedule. You will need to follow the link to SignUpGenius again and sign up for a different day and time. We cannot accommodate or make exceptions for anyone arriving more than 10 minutes late to their appointment.
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME, then please either remove yourself from the time slot so someone else can sign up, call the Adoptions Team at 856-424-2288 (option 2) or email them at [email protected] and advise them that you can no longer make your appointment time. Please do this as soon as you know you cannot make the appointment.
UNABLE TO GET AN ADOPTION APPOINTMENT? Check out AWA's Pets Looking for People page and maybe you'll find your new best friend!
THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF FAQs which was put together. Please read through these before your appointment.
- If I leave a comment for the specific animal I want to meet with, will I be able to see that animal?
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that the specific animal you would like to meet with will still be available at the time of your appointment. When you arrive for your appointment, you can request to meet with a specific animal and the adoption counselor will let you know if they are available.
- Can I make more than one appointment on the same day?
No. One appointment per household per day. We ask that you are only signing up for one appointment during this time to ensure others are able to sign up as well.
- Who can I bring with me to this appointment?
Limit the number of family members coming with you to the appointment to 4 people total. Those coming should be those people in your immediate household only. If you already have a dog and are hoping to adopt a dog, then we highly recommend you bring your dog with you to your appointment so they may meet the potential new dog.
- Can I make an appointment to see an animal that is in foster care?
No, animals in foster care are not yet available for adoption. Only those animals listed on our website are available for adoption by appointment.
- How long will the appointment last?
30 min per appointment, longer if deciding to adopt. For example, if you signed up for a 1-1:30 pm appointment then you would need to arrive at 1pm. If you arrived more than 10 minutes after 1pm, then you would be asked to leave and you would have to reschedule.
- What if I can no longer make my appointment time?
Please remove yourself from the slot you are signed up for or email [email protected] that you can no longer make your appointment time.
- Should I bring my current dog with me to this appointment if I want him/her to meet the dog I’m interested in?
Yes, if you would like your dog to meet the shelter dog then please bring him or her. We recommend bringing your dog. In the case of some of our shelter dogs this dog to dog meet is required. All dogs are required to be on leash while on our property. For safety purposes, any dogs coming to meet a shelter dog will need to wear a non-retractable leash and a martingale collar.)
(Please do not bring any other pets. The only animal meets we are able to provide are dog to dog.)
- Do I have to adopt the same day as my appointment?
Yes, we are able to offer only same-day adoptions at this point. We are not currently allowing 24 hour holds for the appointments.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to seeing you soon!
