Fr. Joe's LIGHT Group for freshmen (2018-19)
Hello Cathedral parents and guardians,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year of community service. As freshmen, the students community outreach ministry involves serving lunch to our homeless neighbors in San Diego. Every Thursday, about 20 students head down to Fr. Joe's/St. Vincent de Paul to serve lunch. Each student will go one time in their freshmen year with Cathedral. The freshmen will be receiving an e mail to sign up to for a time that works with their schedule. If you are interested and able to be a part of this opportunity to volunteer, you may sign up below. Please be certain you type in your full legal name when you sign up with the SignUpGenius so we are able to reference the proper spelling in the case of confirming previous live scans or background checks through the diocese. Because these outings require chaperones, we would love to have you as a volunteer as many times as you are able to volunteer your time!
The volunteers serve lunch and participate alongside the students. There will be at least one other parent, 1 or 2 faculty members, and 2 Campus Ministry Leaders along on your day as well. Please wear closed toe shoes and long pants. You may park in the visitor spaces in front of the front office, and we meet on the steps of the chapel on campus at 8:45am. If it is a car pooling day, the cars are to depart together at 9:15am. If the bus is taking the group down, the bus will depart with all students, teachers and faculty on board around 9:15am and will have you back at Cathedral no later than 2:00pm. If you are driving, you will leave Fr. Joe's Village around 1:30pm and return to Cathedral no later than 2:00pm. Lunch will be served at the Village for all volunteers.
Once you've signed up, you will receive some brief forms to fill out and e mail back to Tina Martinez in the business office ([email protected]) or drop the completed forms off at the school's front office for Tina. If you have been live scanned, please e mail me your full legal name (the one you would have used when you were live scanned) to let me know [email protected] If you have not been live scanned, it will be necessary to fill out some information for a background check at https://www.cmgconnect.org One more thing everyone who volunteers will need to do is view the Safe Environment Video. It takes a couple of days for the check to go in and then be returned back to Cathedral, so the sooner you get started on this the better.
