Thanks for your interest! Please review the information below before proceeding to the sign-ups. Check the store tabs at the top of this page and notice the store location you select. City Market is expanding the Tree Sale to both the Downtown and South End stores and will need volunteers for both locations.
New this year- Our 23rd Annual COTS Tree Sale is expanding to both of our store locations! The sale will kick off on Wednesday, December 2 at our Downtown store and expand to our South End store on Friday, December 4th. The Tree sale will continue until all the trees are sold (we anticipate selling out at the Downtown Store on Saturday, December 5th).
Each year, City Market holds the annual COTS Tree Sale where all the proceeds of the sale go to support the Committee on Temporary Shelter (about $10,000 each year). And just like last year, for each tree purchased, the Intervale Center will plant a tree through their Conservation Nursery program to protect Vermont's waters. We need many volunteers over the week and a half sale to make it a success, so thank you for signing up!
This is outside work assisting customers in tree selection, tree trimming and tying cars to trees. If signing up for a tree unloading shift, please note that heavy lifting will be required for those specific shifts. Please arrive for your shift on time and dressed appropriately for the weather. We recommend that you wear a coat, gloves and a hat you don't mind getting dirty! Warm socks and long johns are favorites during the tree sale too, weather depending.
Unlike in years past, cafes are closed, so volunteers will be unable to warm-up inside. Volunteers will be required to wear face coverings, and will also take a short safety training prior to starting thier shift. City Market requires customers to wear face coverings and will enforce those policies. Volunteers should not enforce face covering policies.
IMPORTANT: This year we are taking additional safety precautions to ensure compliance with CDC recommendations for COVID-19. Volunteers will be required to wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth while outside. Social distancing may not always be possible when assisting customers with the trees, so face coverings are mandatory. We are also reducing the number of volunteers per shift compared to past years. Volunteers will continue to recieve free hot coffee/hot tea/ hot chocolate, but this year, personal mugs are not allowed for refills. If you are feeling un-well, please stay home. Thank you for your support in following these guidelines!
