Participant confirmation below! - Please take the time to read in length and contact us if you have any questions!!
Thank you for registering your child to participate in the Askate Foundation clinic on Sunday June 17, 2018 in Palmdale, CA! Below is some important information for you to read regarding the event and what to expect!
Participation is by registration only: Each child participating in the clinic will be provided one on one instruction from a clinic volunteer. If you signed up more than one child then you may only receive one confirmation, use it for both children as they will have the same skate time! Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled skate time! Your child's session will be over approximately 1pm.
LOCATION AND PARKING:
MARIE KERR PARK
39700 30TH STREET WEST
PALMDALE, CA 93551
There are several places that you can park (near and far). We suggest parking on the 30th street west side (pretty much the corner of Rancho Vista Blvd and 30th street west).
A few things: We recommend closed toe athletic footwear to ensure that your child has the easiest time skateboarding and participating in the clinic. Crocks and sandals are NOT safe on skateboards and we do not recommend wearing them. If you have a hard time finding a shoe that your child does not have to tie or wear socks with, we recommend Vans slip on shoes.
Siblings are welcome and encouraged to attend! Although there is no formal registration for siblings we do our best to accommodate them in participation when we have additional volunteer resources! This will be an event for the entire family to remember forever and we hope that this continues to be a long term program being carried over into your community!
Skateboards and helmets:
We will provide the skateboard equipment for your child to use during their session. If your child has their own skateboard equipment please feel free to bring it and we can help your child learn to use it and progress! Please bring your own helmet if your child has one (even if it is a bicycle helmet). If your child has severe sensory issues it may be helped by having something familiar to use from home! Practice putting it on using a timer from now until the day of the event and giving small rewards for trying!
SNACKS: We will be providing light snacks and beverages at the clinic. If your child has food allergies please bring them something to eat or snack on as they will be HUNGRY after their most amazing session ever!
No child is too young and no individual is too old to participate! Skateboarding is known to "heal the soul" but for our special kids it is so much more! Skateboarding offers nearly every component as Occupational Therapy believe it or not focusing on motor, vestibular, and proprioceptive skills. In addition our program allows these children to be social on their own terms.
