2019-20 Redwood Day All School Volunteer Opportunities

Each year, hundreds of hard-working and enthusiastic volunteers come together to enrich the Redwood Day community. Whether you have limited availability or can give more time – there are numerous volunteer opportunities from which to choose. We welcome your participation at any level! Classroom specific volunteer opportunities such as field trips will come from your Room Parents!

Art

Throughout the year there are different opportunities in and out of the Art classroom, K-5. In-class are project based and volunteers are welcome to assist in any grade. Outside of the classroom includes helping with the Art show and the 4th/5th Musical.

Auction: Redwood Day At Night Party (March 28, 2020) and Online Auction (TBD)

The auction is the PGA’s cornerstone fundraising event - both the online portion and the Redwood Day at Night party. Volunteer opportunities range from securing donations, editing item descriptions, or organizing hosted events to planning the party!

Book Fair (December 2 - 6, 2019)

The annual Redwood Day Book Fair is an opportunity to support the school while you shop for great books. Volunteer opportunities include cashiering, staffing, set-up and breakdown, and support at associated events.

Caring

Caring Committee volunteers mobilize when any member of the Redwood Day community is in transition or crisis. Support can include meals, carpooling, grocery shopping, and childcare.

Faculty & Staff Appreciation

The Faculty & Staff Appreciation Committee exists to show our faculty and staff just how much they are respected and appreciated. Volunteers bring snacks, organize themed luncheons and dinners, and acknowledge birthdays, holidays & National Teacher week.

Fall Festival (October 26, 2019)

The Fall Festival is a longstanding Redwood Day tradition for the whole family and community to play with and get to know each other. A wide variety of volunteer activities include set up, clean up, and shifts at various activity stations and games.

Fun Run/Walk (May 16, 2020)

Grab the kids, the dog and your comfortable shoes. Run, walk or stroll Lake Merritt to raise money for tuition assistance. Volunteers assist in planning and staffing this annual community-building and fundraising event benefiting Redwood Day.

Generations Day (November 22, 2019)

Generations Day is an annual event that welcomes Grandparents and special friends for classroom visits and student performances. Volunteers set up, greet guests, serve food and drinks, guide visitors, take pictures, and clean up.

Library

Volunteers assist the librarians and students with general tasks in the library such as shelving and book check-out. Volunteers can drop in as their schedules allow during the day or can sign up to assist with their child’s class.

Lice Busters

The Lice Busters Committee works to reduce lice exposure at Redwood Day by providing information to families to shorten the duration of outbreaks and by conducting grade-level head inspections at school. Volunteers are scheduled as needed.

Prism (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)

Prism will continue its strategic partnership with the School, supporting Heritage celebrations and Adult Affinity Groups for our parent/guardian community, plus helping promote and volunteer for DEI events.
