NAMI Frederick will host an educational lecture titled "Veterans & Suicide, Military Culture & its Relevance to Suicide" presented by David Galloway from Maryland's Commitment to Veterans & Jonathan Hollands, U.S. Department of Vetrans Affairs Wednesday March 14th 2nd from 7:00 -8:30 pm at the YMCA, 100 North Market St. in Frederick. This is a free event.

- The issues surrounding veterans and suicide
- Unique characteristics of being a veteran
- How being a veteran increases the risk for suicide
- The value of veterans helping vererans
Jonathan Hollands has been working as a Peer Support Specialist at the Baltimore VA since November, 2013, where he has successfully utilized his lived experience with PTSD and substance abuse to assist in the Recovery of his fellow Veterans. He has worked with Veterans in both the Outpatient and Residential Trauma Recovery Program at the Baltimore VA, and is currently working with Veterans as a member of the Suicide Prevention Team as well. Mr. Hollands is both a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. Mr. Hollands joined the Marine Corps in Sept. of 1986 and served honorably for 7 years. In 2006 Mr. Hollands joined the Maryland Army National Guard and served for four years as a sergeant of infantry.
David Galloway served in the United States Marine Corps from 2003-2007 as an Infantry Machine Gun Squad Leader. During his enlistment he was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom two times. David now serves as the Director of Maryland's Commitment to Veterans whose mission it is to connect all Veterans in Maryland with Behavioral Health resources and whatever aid they may need.
