The School Leadership Team's Wellness Committee is hosting a workshop for 7th & 8th-grade parents and guardians* (not students, please) led by our 7th and 8th-grade Human Development and Sexuality residency teacher, Ekem Merchant-Bleiberg.
From workshop leader and our residency teacher Ekem Merchant-Bleiberg: As caregivers we all want our children to be informed and empowered to learn, grow and make healthy choices when it comes to their social, emotional and physical health. Dialogues about reproductive health and development usually take place during adolescence and early adulthood – often as a result of medical problems or inappropriate or self-destructive behavior; these dialogues are often corrective and “after-the-fact” in nature. With increased exposure to advertising and social media, today’s youth face unprecedented challenges as they navigate their social world and their own growth and development.
--How do we start the conversation?
--How do we inform ourselves?
--What role can parents, play in the questioning, exploration and problem solving that make growing up so challenging?
--How do we empower our children to make healthy choices, in and out of the classroom?
*We are planning a separate workshop for 6th-grade parents and guardians later this Spring.
6:30pm - 8:00pm EDT
