April 22nd: HOW NON-BELIEVERS AND BELIEVERS CAN WORK TOGETHER – KILE JONES

Sunday Speaker

Even if we diverge on whether or not a God, souls, or an afterlife exist, we can work together to create a brighter and more just world. If you are interested in hearing why this atheist feels compelled to work with religious persons, and want to discover an almost infinite amount of projects non-believers and religious persons can co-facilitate, come by The Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix and let’s talk.

How Non-Believers and Believers Can Work Together When I first left my Christian faith and became an atheist, I was rather confrontational, and far from diplomatic, to religious persons. I primarily saw them as people who were hindering progress and who needed to follow my footsteps. More often than not, I focused on our disagreements and not our shared humanity. My convictions were principled, and being pragmatic often felt like a compromise. I have long since changed those views. I have found a whole fertile world of cooperation and affirmation between myself and my religious comrades. Even if we diverge on whether or not aGod, souls, or an afterlife exist, we can work together to create a brighter and more just world. If you are interested in hearing why this atheist feels compelled to work with religious persons, and want to discover an almost infinite amount of projects non-believers and religious persons can co-facilitate, come by The Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix and let’s talk. And if you feel like I might be compromising or “selling out,” let me present to you the reasons I changed my mind about working with religious persons.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Doors open at 9:00 am for socializing with an optional Continental breakfast available for a $5 donation. The meeting begins at 10:00 am.

A Children's Program is available during the Speaker Meeting. Please see the HSGP Meetup for the Children's Program at this meeting for more information and to RSVP with the number of children attending.
